The Best Reflective Collars for Dogs

There may be a few reasons you are looking for a reflective collar for your dog. One of the main reasons people consider reflective dog collars is for maximum visibility on those nightly walks. Even when your dog is on a leash and close to you, other people may not see them.  

Dark haired dogs, like a black lab, can nearly dissapear from your sight when it gets dark.  When your dog is leashed, this can pose a slight danger to other people walking. But in higher traffic areas, there may be people running, biking, or even on scooters. It is important for everyones' safety for your dog to be clearly visible to everyone around.  

Its important to maximize visibility of your dog to other evening and after-dark hazards like speeding traffic and neighborhood or country wildlife. The goal of a reflective collar is to really prevent your dog from surprising anyone or anything; whether it is a person walking, a cyclist, or an oncoming car. 

If you have a fenced-in yard for you dog, a reflective collar can allow you to see your dog the entire time they are in your yard. Without a safety reflecting collar, your dog mightdissapear from your view until you call him/her back. 

The best reflective collar should be 100% reflective. In other words, it should reflect light from all parts of the collar. Some collars only have a small piece of reflective material and claim to be a reflective collar. The unfortunate truth is that while they are partly reflective, they will never do as good of a job as a collar that is made from 100% reflective material.

Things to Consider When Looking at Reflective Safety Collars 

There are some important things to consider, mainly safety and comfort. Any dog accessory you choose should always be safe for your dog to wear, and comfortable.

Any dog collar you choose for your dog should fit them well. Your dog is going to wear its collar ALOT, so it should be comfortable.  When your dog doesn't mind the collar, it won't try to rip it off.  A well-fitting collar is much less likely to get caught on things,  and leave your dog scared and possibly injured.

Pet owners often choose pet accessories that suit their own tastes - maybe a luxury leather dog collar with a matching leash, or perhaps a pink bandana for days at the park. Our pets are a reflection of ourselves and parts of our families - so we should dress them up as we see fit!

All of these collars are 1" wide, which we have found to be a perfect size for small, medium, and large dogs alike. Wider collars can be okay for large dogs, but cumbersome for the smaller dogs.
